Composer and Pianist
Michiko Shimanuki studied piano with Dame Fanny Waterman in Leeds, the late Kendall Taylor CBE in London, Aquiles Delle Vigne in Paris and other prominent pianists in Japan and Europe.
She spent her 20s giving concerts in the UK and Europe and then went on to study composition with Sadie Harrison, Rob Keeley and Professor Silvina Milstein and completed her Ph.D at King's College London. In 2003, she was awarded full scholarship to study with Betsy Jolas in her master class at the Academie Musicale de Villecroze, France.
Her music has been performed by the London New Wind Ensemble, Ian Mitchell, Ellie Blackshaw, David Sutton-Anderson, other professional performers and herself, and has been broadcast on radio stations in the UK, USA and the Netherlands.
More recently, her composition The Dreams and the Pendulum for woodwind and piano was performed by the London New Wind Ensemble and was featured as one of the tracks in the album Millennial Masters Vol.5, produced by Ablaze Records.
